Join Richard Markham, Hedgerows Ireland acreddited hedge layer to observe the technique and skills of laying hedges. The class will explain the history and benefits of hedge laying, including its role in creating stock-proof barriers, promoting biodiversity and rejuvenating hedgerows.
Richard will demonstrate the techniques, such as cutting stems, creating hinges and bending them over to form a dense, interwoven barrier. Come and see this skill demonstrated with traditional hand tools.
Forest school is an adventure for children aged 5-11 who love the outdoors. Activities include den building, bug hunting, arts and crafts, bushcraft and wildlife spotting. The session is led by experienced forest school practitioner Joanna. She will provide a fun, and memorable experiences for children.
Join Mary Bulfin for a foraging walk along the hedgerows of Mount Briscoe Organic Farm. Learn to identify edible plants and about some of their many other uses, including as herbal remedies.
The walk will be at a gentle pace on a sometimes-uneven surface. Family friendly. No dogs allowed.
